Antique Victorian Shaped White Marble amp Mahogany Console Hall Table Wash Stand Sink Unit Plant Stand

300 GBP

This attractive Victorian wash stand is better than the average which one normally comes across. It has lovely carved solid mahogany wooden pedestal legs at the front and an uncommon, highly decorative wavy shaped edge to its white carrera marble top. Also, many mahogany wash stands of this period are very large and heavy whereas this particular piece is much more versatile given its useful smaller dimensions.
Size: Height approximately 70 cm x width approximately 107 cm x depth approximately 58.5 cm.
This item could be used in various locations around the home as a console table; it looks particularly good in a hall; it can also be used in a bathroom, downstairs cloakroom, in a bedroom as a dressing table, or even in a conservatory to display plants. Alternatively this piece could be used in a commercial environment such as a cafe or for a florist.
The marble top on the wash stand lifts off its wooden base so both pieces are easy to move.
This is a private sale from a smoke and pet free home. I purchased this wash stand a while ago intending to have holes drilled in the marble top so that it could be plumbed in and used for washing one's hands in my downstairs loo when fitted with a matching carrera marble table top bowl style vessel which I subsequently acquired.
Unfortunately I have not had the time to get this done and my home renovations have now gone in a different direction, so I have reluctantly decided to sell on this beautiful wash stand.
The advertised price is for the wash stand alone (i.e. the wooden base plus its flat marble top). I am selling my unused, undamaged, as new marble bowl style washing vessel separately. I sourced this bowl directly from Italy via a marble importer. It is well worth considering as it makes a real statement sitting on the wash stand. I would be happy to send you details of the bowl should you be interested.
The wash stand is in good antique condition. There are a few small dents and marks on the wood and some tiny patches where the veneer has flaked off from the side of the stand immediately beneath the marble top; such signs of wear are to be expected on furniture of this period and add to its charm. The mahogany wood has a lovely patina and is free from woodworm. It is undamaged and has no repaired components.
Although the warm glow of the mahogany wood looks really nice, if one so wished it would not be difficult to upcycle this stand by painting the wood to match the rest of one's decor.
The marble is undamaged, with no chips or even a hairline crack - which is amazing given its age and previous use. The marble is a bit rubbed in places and has a few light yellow marks which have transferred from things placed on its surface earlier in its life. However, with the right product the top can easily be returned to its former glory.
Please study the photographs provided to make your own assessment regarding the condition of this item. I would be happy to send more photographs if necessary to serious potential buyers.
Buyer to collect, and pay cash on collection please. Regret no returns accepted. Thank.
