Hello.. I am Sheila, i was diagnosed with Epilepsy since childhood. I am now 33 years old and a mother to my son who had a one-off seizure at the age of 6 years and he has no diagnosed health conditions. When i was younger i did not know about Epilepsy, as i grew older i became more aware and it's only been since i was a young adult that my curiosity got the better of me. So i did my own research (mainly online), so i learned about the various charity organisations and services which are widely available to people with Epilepsy. The illness in general was never talked about & nor was i ever given any information from health professionals about what help or support was available. These are some of the reasons that has led me to me to start & introduce my Voluntary Community Organisation called Epilepsy UK, which i started on Facebook on 5th March 2015. It is to enhance Epilepsy awareness services online & offline. The services i aim to provide are direction, help, support, provide information, organise social & fundraising events & more!.. locally and where possible.I have already shared 'My story' on the Epilepsy Action website, which i have also posted to the Facebook page. I have also attended one of their Coffee and Chat meetings this year, which was a welcoming experience. If you have any connection with Epilepsy or would like to get to know more about 'My story' or just more about Epilepsy UK please do get in contact and i do hope we can be of assistance to you or someone you.
