The construction began in 1880 and was completed by a convict labour force from the newly-constructedBorstal prison. The work was supervised by the Royal Engineers. This Fort is constructed in the shape of a six-sided arrow head, each flank was protected by machine gunsin the counterscarp galleries. The Fort would have been home to approximately 400 men and women, so does this explain why this location is so active? Reported hauntings and paranormal activity at Fort Horsted; Eerie footsteps can be heard walking towards you but nobody ever arrives.There are areas of theFort that are so scary that the security guard and guests will not even enter. Visitors have also reported feeling very uneasy and have had a sense of being pushed out by something. It is also thought that a demon walks the dark, cold corridors and photos have shown redish shadows and shapes which cannot be explained.
