Gibson SG Special 1971–Rare with mini Humbuckers
A vintage 1971 SG Special in original cherry finish, it has one nice small electrical mod that adds a coil tap to the bridge pick up, activated when the tone knob is turned past 9. Easy to return to original wiring if you so wish but I think it adds a subtle extra voice to the guitar. The guitar has needless to say faded a bit but the original Cherry colour is still pretty good given its age. It’s a very cool lightweight guitar with a classic rock sound.
As one would expect for a guitar of this age it has a fair number of small dings here and there but no major ones and no structural issues. It has a really nice thin neck, plays really well and is comfortable to play all night long, without breaking your neck. I have owned it for 30 years and will be sad to let it go but it has spent most of the last five years sitting in it’s case as I don’t gig with it any more, so I’d rather it went to a good home. A shaped hard case is included that might be by Gibson or not as it doesn’t have ‘Gibson’ on it anywhere I suspect not but not all cases from this era did so I can’t say for sure, but it’s a good case.
This is the same model as played for many years by the sadly departed John Martyn.
