I teach a number of different styles: classical and folk, blues and rock guitar. I also offer tuition in the five string banjo. My approach to teaching differs from conventional schools and colleges in so far as I do not follow a rigidly structured syllabus; rather I gear each lesson to the individual needs of each student. Neither is it necessary to read music as much of the repertoire for the modern guitar can be played using a system known as tablature. I cover topics such as the basics of rhythm and tempo, an introduction to pitch, scales, chords and ear training. I gained most of my playing experience on the 'folk' scene and I make use of the folk learning process in my teaching sessions. I place more emphasis on learning the practical skills to be able to jam along to your favourite songs and my lessons are delivered by means of a hands on approach. Fees are from ₤20 per hour or ₤6 per student as part of a group.
