30 ft Historic Icebreaker Sara For Sale. Circa 1900, originally open topped and horse drawn, converted in 1970’s to a unique hand crafted 2 berth Edwardian Style Narrow-boat. Very robust, reinforced & riveted iron hull, with amazingly solid iron plating with years of service left. The beautiful and truly unique handcrafted hardwood cabin & decks (oak, teak) are full of character and charm with a light and airy cabin due to it’s large window area. Although showing a few subtle signs of patina due to its age, the structure is in very good order, sound & watertight with a good shine on all varnish. Featured in a Waterways World article in September 2005 “The Ice Princess”, now tastefully updated with a Boatman solid fuel stove, Brand new in 2010, Lister TR2 air cooled diesel engine & PRM gearbox with approx 600 hours of use only. Gimballed oil lamp lighting supplies a wonderfully mellow and atmospheric light, whilst discrete electric lights allow brighter lighting when required. A split charging system linked to the engine alternator supplies twin batteries. Sara does not however have all the mod cons you would expect to find on a standard new boat. There is NO LPG fitted, cooking is via the Valor paraffin stove or the Boatman multi-fuel stove. 2 stove top Kettles or 12 volt unit offers hot drinks for the crew at any time and for washing up. There is a simple foot pumped cold water system fitted to both kitchen and washroom sinks plus there is a brand new & unused Porta loo toilet in the separate washroom. The dinette area in the main cabin drops to form a generous double bed, plus there is the option to hang a hammock style bed for a child at the rear of the main cabin. The oak dining table from the main cabin can also be fitted out in the front well for alfresco dining. Outside side screens plus front & rear covers protect the varnished superstructure from harmful UV sunlight when not in use, meaning varnishing is kept to a minimum (5+ years between coats). A removable spotlight and hidden horn complete the electrical installations. Sara always received a lot of praise, attention & comments from passers by when she is out on the canal, so if you are looking for something very different that will get you looked at and have numerous conversations, this could be the boat for you. Sara comes with a Boat Safety Certificate until July 2020, CRT Canal & River licence to end July 2017, & the potential for a very reasonably priced, non-towpath private mooring in Market Harborough (subject to society approval).
