Japanese Satsuma Tea Set Antique Meiji Period Kyoto Hand Painted Shimazu Crested c.1900 or Earlier

55 GBP

Antique Japanese Meiji Period Kyoto Hand Painted Shimazu Crested Satsuma Tea Set c.1900 or Earlier. Very Good Condition.
This beautiful antique Japanese tea set was made in Kyoto during the Meiji Period (c.1900 or earlier).
It is covered in hand painted views of Geisha girls and other people in a winter landscape. Decorated in tan, cream, lilac, black, grey and white with gold gilding.
The manufacturer's marks on the undersides include the Shimazu family crest.
The set is comprised of: a teapot with dragon spout, milk jug and sugar vessel (all three with lids topped by ball finials), plus six cups and six saucers.
These items have been stored for many years in a cabinet so overall are in very good condition with no damage to the pottery or enamel or gilding - except for a small chip on the top of the dragon's mouth on the teapot spout. This chip could easily be restored. However, from most angles the chip is not visible - so it should not be a problem if being used for display purposes only.
Please study the photographs provided to make your own assessment of the condition of this tea set.
This is a private sale from a pet and smoke free home.
Given the tea set is fragile I would prefer the buyer to collect, and pay cash on collection please. However, I would if essential reluctantly be willing to dispatch the tea set to a location within the United Kingdom, at the buyer's own risk, for an additional £16.50. Regret no returns accepted. Thank.
