Laika ecoVIP Classic 2.1 7 Berth 2.8TD 2003

5,600 GBP

Laika are a quality Italian motorhome maker who, I understand, have now become part of the Hymer group. Inside, this motorhome it's not all plastic but has real wood coverings and details. Outside, the walls are aluminium/foam sandwich construction and a fibreglass and foam sandwich roof. Fully winterised for year round use and a double floor with heated storage and tanks. Based on the usual Fiat motorhome running gear with the 2.8L 5speed box. MPG tends to be between 23 to 25 depending on how and where it's driven.
The 'van will sleep up to 7 people. Double over-cab bed, dinette converts to double, bench seat converts to a single and then the two bunk beds at the rear. The bench seat also converts to a dinette and the lower bunk bed can be tipped to give a big garage/outside locker (for bikes etc. although there is a three bike bikerack on the rear). We had our family over from Australia who we took on a tour of the UK in this motorhome so there were 4 adults and 2 children and we all managed fine with plenty of storage (internal lockers, underseat lockers, external lockers and the big belly locker within the double floor) for everyone's needs. Normally there is just two adults and then the space is real luxury.
The kitchen has a three burner hob with ignition, an oven and grill, a large fridge with separate large freezer, a sink with hot and cold water (hot and cold to all taps/shower in the van). The motorhome has a Truma central heating system which is very good and heats lockers, basement, tanks and cab. I've changed nearly all the lights to LED which makes the batteries go much further during winter use. I don't know exactly how big the water tank is but seems to be larger than average, I'd guess at around 120L to 150L
The bathroom has a separate shower cubical (no mopping down the toilet afterwards) a sink with a mirror and 12v shaver socket over. The toilet is of the marine type and goes into a tank - emptied via the 15 feet of hose or via the wheeled waste carrier (if you can't drive near a dump point)
A Status TV aerial on a telescopic pole and a 12v LCD TV with DVD player is included.
There are two leisure batteries installed which are charged either by the on-board mains charger or by the solar panel on the roof.
I've also had air suspension fitted at the rears. These are adjustable depending on the ride needed but have made the motorway (and roundabout) handling much much better
