Land Rover Discovery 2003

2,400 GBP

Here for sale is my Landrover Discovery 2 Facelift model td5 Auto 7 seats registered 27/11/2003.
It is registered to me and I have the logbook in my name although a new one will need to be obtained as the number plate L30NKJ will be put on retention and the old plate put back on (this will be a 53 registration).

It is a deeply regrettable sale. I bought it 2 years ago and fitted the parts to green lane and off-road it but never actually get time to use it on a regular basis (I have used it on 3 green lanes in the 2 years I have had it). The lack of use is the genuine reason for sale (I don't even drive to work as it is quicker to walk as I live so close) so it only gets used for family days out and shopping / visiting relatives all of which can be done is a cheapy run around, and seems a shame for it to sit there doing nothing. I am hoping that whoever buys it will be able to put it to some use that I didn’t manage to.

The vehicle is running the super efficient, smooth and strong TD5 Diesel engine coupled to an automatic gearbox with high low ratio as well as traction control. The mileage is currently 230800 and is set to rise slightly as it is still in use until a new owner is found. Any one who knows these engines will know that they are bomb proof. It will pull 3.5 tonne all day long and still be happy with the kids in it on the school run. This is a great commuter (very comfy) and workhorse alike.

Good MOT until 27/11/17. It has done only 1700 miles since the last mot and only 4K the year before. Generally if it comes to running then if it needs doing it is done. For the last MOT I had the following work completed. A rear hub, track rod arm, and rear brake pads, drop link end and a diff seal along with tracking. In addition to this other significant work that has been done includes Airbags for air suspension replaced at 221k according to the service manual and they work great. MAF sensor replaced May 2017, injector loom replaced (less than a year ago) and the EGR has been deleted at the same time as the loom was done so none of the normal running issues.
The common hazing of the headlamp has also been resolved so should not cause any issues (mot advisory 2 years ago and no problem on the last mot).
The common problem of the passenger doors all round not opening has been resolved in my ownership as 2 of the doors did not open from the outside you had to open them from the inside by leaning over (not easy on such a big car) so all now open from outside.

The good points of the car include:
• Smooth Automatic Gearbox
• High and Low ratio gears
• 7 seats,
• Air Suspension (works perfectly and great for towing and off-roading)
• EHDC (Electronic Hill Descent Control)
ABS
Traction Control
• 2 electric sunroofs
• air con / climate with separate controls for driver and passenger. Heaters are hot and air con cold
• Heated screen (you should never have to scrape it in the ice),
• Power folding Wing Mirrors (these are heated too) stopping them getting hit when you are parked up or for fitting through small spaces.
• Electric windows all around
• 12v socket in the boot too. Great for charging or camping equipment.
• Roof bars.
• Snorkel,
• Bull bars,
• Spot lamps wired into the main beam
• tow bar and electrics
• EGR Delete for more power
• Remote Central Locking
• Alloy Wheels (including matching spare)
• Steering wheel remote controls for the stereo
• BF Goodrich All terrain tyres - Ready to off-road should you wish or just get you out on a really bad winters morning (heated screen is great when it's frozen haha).
• CD Radio (lots of speakers and very clear sound (Harmon Kardon I think)
• All seats have 3 point inertia belts so there are no lap belts at all.
• Front Fog Lamps

It is a facelift model and looks fantastic with the different shaped lights etc. Underneath is solid and has gone through the MOT without any advisories on running gear, chassis, or shell. 7 seats, and being the discovery 2 the rear ones are forward facing and have head rests that drop down from the ceiling too (see pictures). We have 3 kids all under 9 so have 3 child seats across the middle row when we use it. We have also had child seats on the rear seats, as they are large enough to put the high back seats on them safely and each has 3-point inertia belts so perfectly safe to be used (not lap belts).

Cruise control can be fitted as all of the wiring is there and I have the parts available separately should whoever buy the car wish to purchase these too (again a job I planned to do but didn't as it wasn't being used enough)

As it is a 14 year old car there are some niggles but not anything that needs to be addressed urgently has been dealt with already

• Front sunroof leaks in heavy rain when facing uphill. Nothing too bad and a common issue easily resolved by sealing the leading edge with silicon. As a result the headlining has a small scruffy part above the steering wheel. Easy clean and fix with glue.
• Front sunroof doesn't open at present. I think it is a fuse but was going to resolve both issues together and have not got round to it. Back sunroof works fine and does not leak)
• Rear (boot) door handle sticks a little, again common problem. Just needs greasing.
• Central locking locks everything but drives door only unlocks on the key at present. Actuator probably needs some adjusting but not had it off to check.
• There is also a crack in the front screen. Passed mot with it and is down as an advisory. My insurance does not cover window repairs when caused by green landing so as it passed the mot and the mechanic says it is safe I have not fixed it. Your insurance could cover the replacement for just a small excess if you wanted it done.
• The seam on the drivers seat has a very small split
• steering wheel is worn.

It does have a few marks around the outside partly due to age and partly as it has been off roaded a couple of times.
• Front bumper scraped on both corners
• Front wing dented,
• Trim piece missing on back bumper
• Rear lamp has gaffer tape on the edge to stop it propping out and easy fix just needs a clip making which will hold it in.

As with all original discoveries this age it has the rust patch at the front of the roof
There is a poor paint repair on the bonnet not too bad but it does have a patch in a slightly mismatched colour
I am looking at getting these bodywork problems dealt with but the price will rise to reflect the body shop charges if I do them before it sells (grab yourself a bargain and do it yourself) They are not too bad and certainly not a major issue but a common fault which I would rather treat it now before it becomes an issue.

I have been over critical of the faults. I would rather be over critical and you get a nice surprise than over sell it and you be disappointed when you look at it.
At the end of the day it is a 14 year old car with good MOT and runs fantastic. If I had more time to use it I wouldn't be selling it and I am sure I will have another again at some point (probably not as reliable as this one has been though knowing my luck)

Asking price is £2400 Ono. You are welcome to view / test drive, just give me a shout to arrange. We are located in Newcastle Emlyn Sa38 postcode area.
