Do you speak a second language? Is English your second language? This could be a significant skill to supporting some of the families that Home-Start Glasgow South meets for whom English is a second language.
Home-Start volunteers support local families in a number of ways, using their unique skills and experiences to help families to cope. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and generally help out in one of the following roles: Home Visiting Volunteers, English Tutoring Volunteers and D.I.Y. Volunteers.
The only qualification you need to be a home-visiting volunteer is parenting experience. Anything else will be provided by our volunteer training course which runs for 2 1/2 hours once a week for nine weeks.
Home-Start tutors must have an interest in teaching English and experience is helpful, but no formal qualifications are required.
D.I.Y. volunteers are those keen to support and empower others with practical skills such as decorating, gardening and furniture building. Again this is about skills and enthusiasm rather than qualifications.
Home-Start Glasgow South would not be able to function without the valuable input of its volunteers.
We provide volunteers with the training and support they require so that they can make a positive and lasting difference to the lives of the families we work with. Volunteering with Home-Start is great experience and a wonderful opportunity to not only support others, but to grow professionally and develop your own skills.
If you can spare a few hours each week to help a family, call us or email us to find out how amazing you can be.
