I bought the car from its third owner, who had owned it since February 2012. Prior to that it had been owned by a mother and then her son.
First registered in March 1996, so a 5 speed facelift car but still the 32v M119 V8 engine.
MOT'd to March 2018 and with all MOTs back to 2012.
108,500 miles.
The car has an almost mark-free body in Brilliant Silver (code 744) - there are only the very smallest of stone chips - a handful only. No scrapes, dents or other marks. If there is any rust, I've not been able to locate it. Similarly the hard top is in fantastic condition. I looked at about 10 before settling on this one, which was the best by far in this price bracket.
The soft top was recently reproofed and had the plastic windows replaced and is in great condition. It folds well with no hydraulic leaks.
All 4 alloys are unmarked. A couple of the plastic centre caps are slightly marked but easy to replace if it bothers you.
The interior has the facelifted seats in dark blue leather (both electric with memory) with matching dark blue carpets. No rips/tears in the leather and in very good overall condition. I've just bought a set of 4 original dark blue ribbed overmats. It has an aftermarket Sony radio/CD with boot mounted CD player and aux input.
During its life with the previous owner it from it had a lot of money spent on it - whatever it needed it looks like he did it, including: new battery; bolster repair; various services; gearbox service; air and pollen filters (in 2016); new bonnet insulation; replacement soft top windows (Oct 2016); new CAT (2016); new timing chain, tensioner, tensioner timing chain and all rails; new steering damper; new alternator; new lambda O2 sensor; all 4 alloy wheels refurbished.
The car comes with its wind deflector, toolkit, matching 8-hole alloy spare wheel, 2 keys (one brand new from Mercedes) and all the service records from the previous owner. He got no history from the previous 2 owners but I have their address should anyone wish to try to obtain it. He had the vehicle professionally inspected before purchasing.
A/c blows cold. All 4 tyres were replaced quite recently and have plenty of tread and no damage.
The car drives really well - it's tight and the 5 speed auto box shifts smoothly and kicks down quickly when needed.
If you're looking for a very nice, trouble-free and usable SL500 at a sensible price this is well worth viewing and driving.
