The former steel works is set in the village of Brymbo near Wrexham, Wales. It was founded by John Wilkinson who purchased the original Brymbo Hall with its 500-acre estate in 1792. After Wilkinson’s death the works lay dormant for many years before being bought out a Brymbo Estate trustee, who then handed it to Henry Robertson to develop in 1842. In 1931 the effects of the great depression caused the plant to go bankrupt, it was then saved and restarted by Henry Robertson’s son, Sir Henry Beyer Robertson. The plant later ceased operation in 1975. Since closure many of the older buildings have crumbled due to weather damage, but many still remain; with structures dating back to the late 1700’s still.
