Drum Lessons for children between the ages of 10-18. I am a student of 21 in my final year of my Professional Musicianship (Drums) degree at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) in Brighton. I have been teaching a student for 2 years and therefore have a good amount of experience in how to teach. Now that I am confident in my teaching I have decided to expand the amount of students I take on. I have always been great at inspiring and engaging children and teenagers and it is something that I greatly enjoy! At only 21 I understand that I may not have as much experience as other teachers in the area. However, what I do have is a different approach to teaching Drums. When I was learning to play I always found learning songs more beneficial for my development than learning drum rudiments and doing repetitive exercises. I also understand that at such a young age it is far more engaging to be playing a song than sitting in silence, tapping on a practice pad and this is something that I feel a lot of teachers forget. Therefore, I decided to teach drums through playing songs along side the occasional theoretical lessons. I have a large repertoire of songs of which I know have progressive techniques, independence and groove (all of which I will explain in Lessons). I can also read drum notation and will be using it in Lessons to some extent depending on how each individual student learns best. I have been playing drums myself for 10 years, 4 of which were with the guidance of a private tutor and 3 of which I was at university studying Drums. I am an accomplished player and have been picked out at university on many occasions for opportunities such as the House Band and other roles in which I am relied upon and expected to attend and perform to a professional standard without any guidance from tutors. Parents are always welcome to sit in on lessons as much as they want and it is something I encourage in the first few lessons. This is only to ensure everyone is happy with myself and my teaching and is not necessary if unwanted.
