Location: 46-50, Copperfield Road, London, E3 4RR Price : £49.00 per person Event time: 2100hrs until 0400hrs Event date: Saturday 17th October 2015 Brief History of the Ragged School Museum; Thomas Barnardo came to London from his home city of Dublin in 1866, intending to train as a doctor and then become a missionary in China, he was confronted by a city where disease was rife, poverty and overcrowding endemic and educational opportunities for the poor were non-existent. As a cholera epidemic swept through the East End, he could only watch as over 3,000 Londoners were died and many left crippled by disease. So affected by what he had seen he gave up his medical training, this was to pursue his local missionary work. In 1867 he opened his first school where children could be educated to a basic level. The term `Ragged` comes from the children who attended , all of them so poor that their clothes were torn and dirty. His missionary work continued for the next ten years until 1908, by this time enough government schools had opened in the area to serve the needs of local families. Within the original buildings, an authentic Victorian Classroom is still set up. This gives you a real feel as to how over 11000 children would have been educated. The museum gives you a real insight into the life of these Victorian children, just imagine how tough life would have been for them and their families. Reported hauntings and paranormal activity at the Ragged School Museum; There is far too much paranormal activity to list here but just as a taster.... Children's laughter has been caught when a guest was using a sound amplifier and a deep male voice has been recorded via an EVP session, which when played back sounded like the words "get out"!!! EMF meters have also been activated for no reason. The creepy thing was that there were five people allstanding in a line when this happened, which suggested that a child had just run past us. Tables have also been seen tipping onto two legs during our table tipping sessions. Don't miss out on this very active location....we know school was a chore but you won't find this event abore! What is included in your event: A brief `welcome` to all our guests from the SpookSavers team. A medium workshop and a full demonstration of all our equipment that we use (EVP`s, EMF meters and laser beams just to name a few). Vigils throughout the night with different members of the team and our medium. Free refreshments and snacks served throughout the night. A de-brief session at the end of the evening so we can share our experiences. Please bring a torch with a supply of batteries and wear clothes suitable for the weather as it can get very!
