The Forest Amateur Musical Entertainers (F.A.M.E) is proud to present “Stepping Out”. This is a break from our previous run of reviews and tells the story of a disparate group of tap dancers who end up performing in a show. Following the success of his play “Stepping Out”, Richard Harris has combined the talents of lyricist Mary Steward-David and composer Denis King to create a heart-warming toe-tapping new musical following the familiar story of the lives, loves and laughs of a group of women (and one man) attending a weekly tap class in a dingy church hall. As the show unfolds, the songs delicately highlight the troubles and personalities of each of the characters. Mavis is the ex-professional dancer who runs the class. Then there is bubbly Sylvia, nervous Andy, snobby but well meaning Vera, confident Maxine, Lynne who is very serious about dancing, anxious Dorothy, larger than life Rose and Geoffrey the lone widowed male. Accompanying them on the piano is the lugubrious Mrs Fraser.
