I would like to bring to people's attention that in Wirksworth we have a thriving Training Band. There is a fee of just £1 per week. The band meets every Wednesday evening at 7pm and we play until 7.45pm after which members that are proficient enough and play a brass instrument may continue with the senior band. We actively encourage new members of all ages and all wind instruments. Currently our youngest member is about 12 and our eldest is 82. Musical ability is not a problem as we accept complete beginners and those retuning to music after a long absence who wish to start again. All instruments are welcomed and we would love a percussionist. Advice can be given to reed players who want to go on to play at a higher level. Brass players will progress into the senior band. The leader can play most reed and brass instruments. Last year we performed three concerts, in the Methodist Church in Wirksworth, a Remembrance day service in Matlock Bath and a Christmas Carol concert in Matlock Bath.
