More about Wave 105 Cash For Kids
We were so inspired by the overwhelming success of our charity auction in 2009 that we have registered our own charity, Wave 105 Cash for Kids, to continue our support of children in our region in to the future. We are committed to supporting local children under the age of 18, who are financially, socially, emotionally or physically disadvantaged. Additionally to encourage healthy lifestyle options by promoting physical, mental and general wellbeing of children and adolescents specifically within the Wave 105 region.
We firmly believe in this day and age no child should go without their basic needs being met, food, clothes, education, health needs, guidance and support for their future. We want to encourage children to participate in activities outside of school that can engage, spark their imaginations, and help increase their self confidence through art, music, or any sport they are passionate about. We will provide grants to individuals as well as other charities to help ensure the specific needs of children across the region are met.Figures show that there are approximately 54,000 children living in poverty within the Wave 105 Region.
Well over half of parents in poverty (61%) say they have cut back on food and over a quarter (26%) say they have skipped meals in the past year.• Around 1 in 5 parents in poverty (19%) say their children have to go without new shoes when they need them.
A large number of children in poverty say they are missing out on things that many other children take for granted, such as going on school trips (19%) and having a warm coat in winter (14%).• Only 1 in 5 parents in poverty (20%) say they have not had to borrow money to pay for essentials, such as food and clothes in the past.
