VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR OUR SUSSEX NATIONAL TRUST CONSERVATION GROUP

SOUTH DOWNS NATIONAL TRUST VOLUNTEERS

COME JOIN US!

We are a Sussex conservation group who volunteers on behalf of the National Trust.

We were founded in 1988 by several volunteers who carried out work for other conservation groups. Our first work party was held at Highdown Hill near Worthing in light of the damage caused by the great storm of 1987, clearing storm damaged trees. We have grown in stature a lot since then and have a core group of volunteers but want to recruit more to help conserve our precious countryside.

We mainly carry out the work on alternate Sundays with the occasional Saturday and also have weekend tasks, once or twice a year. Any work that is carried out in a year by a volunteer goes towards their 50 hour volunteer card which entitles the holder to free entry to National Trust properties and discounts in their shops and restaurants. This is not compulsory! We also run social events.

The National Trust relies upon contributions and donations from members and work from volunteers like us to help maintain their properties and land.

Members of the group come from all walks of life. We have also had students from Plumpton and various other colleges and those working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award. We are a friendly bunch and will provide any new recruits with a welcoming atmosphere and of course tea and biscuits! Volunteers also get their travel reimbursed.
