This attractive antique table and two matching chairs were made of American stained walnut in the late Victorian or early Edwardian period.
This is a reluctant private sale of these much loved items which were purchased new by the family from Norman & Stacey Limited in Tottenham Court Road just before the premises closed down in 1905.
The table's top unfolds to reveal its green baize and then when open swivels to enable one to play cards or other appropriate games on its surface.
There is a small drawer on the front of the table, which retains its original metal handle. This would have been designed for holding cards, gaming chips etc. However, given their open elegant lines and slim proportions, for many years the table and chairs have been in a hall (with the table top folded over and closed) - where the drawer was very useful for storing keys etc.
The table and chairs are in good antique condition, with a few small dents and marks commensurate with their age. They have a nice patina. All of the items being offered for sale here are free from woodworm, and none of them have damaged or repaired components. There is a thin line of some fading to the green baize where the table's gaming top folds - which is to be expected given this is the original. These items are from a smoke and pet free home.
The chairs have had their two small areas of fabric removed, so they are ready for upholstery by whoever purchases them. This will be quite an easy, straightforward job and requires very little new material. The need for this work to be done on the chairs has been reflected in the advertised sale price, which is the total for all three pieces as they are being sold as one lot.
