Then read on…… Brief History of Drakelow Tunnels; Drakelow Tunnels are spread over 285,000 square feet. They were originally constructed for use by Roverin WWII under the Ministry of Aircraft Production’s Shadow Factory Scheme; the tunnels were mainly usedfor machine workshops and additional storage for Rover. When World War 2 was over, the Government took over the tunnels and it was used as a regional site incase of a nuclear attack. Less than a half of the site was converted for use during the Cold War period,where new rooms and equipment were installed. The tunnels were also used to accommodate important local and national government personnel as wellas the armed forces and a small amount of medical staff. In the 1980’s the Government refurbished many parts of the nuclear side although this was short lived asthe site was sold off in the early 1990’s when the Cold War had ended. Reported hauntings and paranormal activity at Drakelow Tunnels; During the construction of Drakelow there have been reports of many gruesome deaths, reports rangefrom roofs collapsing and crushing staff to death along with fatal human error.
